I was making a pizza all from scratch with my brother and he made the dough and i made the sauce and then we had our own toppings- mine was cheeseless (vegan and such) anyway... we only had baking sheets- not being in the household with circular pizzapans at our disposal- and when i put the dough out- it lookes so funny- like a tombstone and i immidiately thought!!!!: it looks like the Virgin de Guadalupe! and so i set about making the likeness using my toppings.
so the rays are marinated tofu (which by the way is the best thing to put on cheeseless pizza- i wanted yams too (i'd get this cheeseless pizza as often as possible from the san francisco campus cafe-- they also put avocadoes on after baking... mmmm) but whatever. they probably don't have yams in mexico. and the word yam reminds me of that book by Chinua Achebe and i just really want to forget about it... never the less i guess it had its impact... the meaning of a yam...etc etc... caisse- whats the name of that book?? anyway.... it must have taken me about 40 minutes to do this... sorry i digress:
then the cloak is spinach
the trim of the cloak are greek pepperoccinis
the face, crown and hands are marinated artichoke hearts
the jewels of the crown are capers
the eyes, nose, chin, are kalamata olives (such a fan of this olive- integral in the making of good homemade hummus)
the cheek is red bell pepper
the lips are a bit of tomato skin
and i attempted to make a few roses on the right but i had a back ache and i just wanted to bake the damn thing. so there are two feeble made roses...
anyway- i put the rest of the toppings all over the whole thing before i baked it and it was soo good with some tofutti sour cream and tapatio hot sauce... wow i am such a freak... but it's fun to make food prettyand saintly and immaculate and colorful.
oh. my. freaking. god. this is amazing. i think you need to sell these or something. votive pizzas!!!
props to you, bra. not only is it sacred, its vegan.
